This stylish Art Deco restaurant is a popular haunt for the Sydney in-crowd. Tucked away behind Oxford Street in Darlinghurst, Chicane is only five minutes from the CBD. The spectacular concrete bar that runs along one wall is just the spot for a light late-night meal

Now an established social hang, Chicane has never failed in its ability to attract the right crowd - perhaps it's the cool cocktails, or maybe the divine dishes, or even the ambient atmosphere. Whatever it is, Chicane has remained one of Sydney's best establishment and is there to stay.

Modern Australian food, interiors that combine luxe with the contemporary edge of a New York bar. An extensive, accessible wine list with drinks and supper served until late. A cosy lounge bar with comfy chairs. Most important, you want a level of service that has no boundaries.

The creation of such a place requires more than good design, a talented chef and several cases of well-known labels in the cellar. It requires passion, inspiration, personality and a modicum of TLC.

The brief to Tony Legge, of Future Space, as for Chicane's creation, required a sensitive approach in connecting the traditional architectural feeling of its' position with the distinctly urban features and materials. Running contrary to trends in Sydney at the time, Chicane was given a multitude of unexpected features - curves, coves and separate, quite seasonal areas.

Chicane's lighting is soft and ambient with features such as Philippe Starck's pleated, cream "Romeo Soft" shades, a large, organic 1965 pendant by Gastiglione and highly decorative table lamps from Robin Cosgrove Lighting.

Custom-made banquettes and lounges in Swedish organic leather were paired with furniture by Moroso in richly striped and patterned fabrics from esteemed fabric companies such as Donghia, Jack Lenor Larsen, Robert Allen, Redlemen and Romanex.

Disciplined, yet daringly creative, the food at Chicane reflects a love of technique, refinement and flavour. Rather than bold, aggressive combinations, you will delight in the subtle alchemy of gentle flavours and light textures. In this sense, our food is Modern Australian. Sincere and serious about his craft, our chef Nathan Tillot loves to cook for the pleasure of his diners.

Chicane is all about getting back to the basics of fabulous comfort food, warm surroundings and waiters who are knowledgeable without being pretentious.
